Stand-up show 'What A Bummer' by Morgan Rees, the BBC New Comedy Awards finalist, at the Hot Water Comedy Club in Blackstock Market.
Morgan Rees brings his new show, What A Bummer, to Blackstock Market on Friday 30 October. It's a solo stand-up set, and it follows a sold-out tour in 2024, so this is one of the first chances to catch the new material live.
The show grew out of a summer when Rees and his partner went on separate holidays: one to a Mathematics Forum in Coventry, the other to a Bear Party in Barcelona. After that, a massive revelation forced him to re-evaluate everything. From there, the set opens up into the trials of falling in love, awaiting a diagnosis, and being a white Welsh valley boy integrating into a proud Guattari family. It's a lot to pack into one hour, and the storytelling is where he spends most of his time.
Rees is an acclaimed stand-up and an online sensation, and he's spent the last few years working his way up the circuit. He's supported Joanne McNally, Rhys James, and Jayde Adams on tour, and he made it to the finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards. When he's not on stage, he hosts the podcasts My Bad and Chatting With Cherubs with Josh Jones and Gearรณid Farrelly. The reviews have been kind, too: The Scotsman called him a "fine storyteller... with tremendous heart and warmth," and The Sunday Times praised his "fast gags, unexpected swerves and rolling stories."
