Jazz and funk concert by Mike Lindup, founding member of Level 42, performing with his trio of keys, bass and drums.
Mike Lindup is playing The Music Room at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Wednesday 21 October, as part of his 2026 headline tour. He's performing with his trio, a live project built around the classic jazz format of keys, bass and drums.
If the name sounds familiar, it's because Lindup was a founding member, vocalist, keyboard player and principal songwriter for Level 42. He helped shape hits like Lessons in Love and Something About You, and the band went on to six top ten singles and seven top ten albums. Outside of that, he's released four solo albums and worked with the likes of Eric Clapton, Dominic Miller and Da Lata. Gilles Peterson has called him one of his all-time favourite vocalists, and he's long been a cornerstone of Brit funk and jazz.
The trio format is a shift from the full-band shows he's played at London's Jazz CafƩ and Union Chapel. On bass is Yolanda Charles MBE, who has played with Hans Zimmer, Paul Weller and B.B. King; a recent appearance on Peterson's Rhodes Trilogy programme highlighted the chemistry and energy of the trio's live shows. With Lindup on keys and vocals and John Sam on drums, it's a stripped-back line-up that keeps the focus on the playing.
