The hit musical adaptation of the 2004 cult film, following Cady Heron as she navigates the social hierarchy of a suburban high school, updated for the social media age.
Mean Girls opens at the Liverpool Empire on Monday 19 October, running through to Saturday 31 October. It's the stage adaptation of the 2004 cult film, with a book by Tina Fey, music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin. Casey Nicholaw directs, and the show updates the original story to the present day, adding Snapchat, WhatsApp and Instagram to the social arsenal of the Plastics.
The story follows Cady Heron, home-schooled on the African savanna, as she's thrown into the brutal social hierarchy of a suburban Illinois high school. She quickly becomes entangled with The Plastics, the ruthless, pink-clad trio ruled by Regina George. The production leans on dynamic video projections, fast-paced set transitions and show-stopping numbers like 'World Burn', 'Apex Predator' and 'I'd Rather Be Me'. It first opened in the West End in the summer of 2018, and that production earned 12 Tony nominations, including Best Musical and Best Direction.
On stage, Emily Lane plays Cady Heron, with Vivian Panka as Regina George, Sophie Pourret as Karen Smith, Kiara Dario as Gretchen Wieners, Max Gill as Damian, and Georgie Buckland as Janis Sarkisian. Jennifer Ellison takes on the triple role of Ms Heron, Ms Norbury and Mrs George. The show is recommended for ages 12 and above.
