Martin Simpson, folk guitarist and banjo player, brings his 2026 UK tour and new album 'Some Kind of Jubilee' to The Music Room at the Liverpool Philharmonic.
Martin Simpson plays The Music Room at the Liverpool Philharmonic on Tuesday 27 October, starting at 20:00. He's an English guitarist and banjo player who works across both British and American folk traditions, and this date is part of a 2026 tour of 18 concerts across the UK.
He'll be playing from his new album, Some Kind of Jubilee, on Topic Records. It's a significant one for him: it marks 50 years since his debut, Golden Vanity, which came out in 1976. That first record was recorded and produced by Bill Leader at Leader Sound and released on the Trailer label. Simpson describes Some Kind of Jubilee as his best work to date.
The new album was recorded at Jackson Browne's Groovemaster studio in Santa Monica and finished in Yorkshire. It brings together a collaborators ensemble that includes Greg Leisz on pedal steel, Zac Hobbs and Louis Campbell on guitar, Liz Hanks on cello, and Ben Nicholls on double bass. The record weaves newly written songs with reimagined traditional material and fresh interpretations of his own catalogue, so the set should draw from a few different places.
