Live concert in which a full orchestra plays Craig Armstrong's score to the film 'Love Actually' on the big screen.
Love Actually is coming to the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Saturday 5 December, with the film projected on the big screen and Craig Armstrong's score performed live by a full orchestra. It's the 2003 Richard Curtis Christmas favourite, and the whole thing is played out in front of you in the concert hall rather than at home on the sofa.
If you've seen it before, you know the setup: contemporary London in the weeks before Christmas, with ten interlocking stories of love — some romantic, some sad, some stupid, and all funny in their own way. It's an all-star cast that's hard to beat, with Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Bill Nighy, Martine McCutcheon, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Keira Knightley, Rowan Atkinson and Martin Freeman all appearing across those different threads. It's the kind of ensemble where you're usually waiting for your favourite to pop up.
And then there's the music. Craig Armstrong's score won a BAFTA for Achievement in Film Music, and that's what takes centre stage here. Instead of the recorded track, a full orchestra plays it live in the room, timed to the film as it runs on screen. The live concert format has become a festive tradition in its own right, with sold-out audiences and critical praise year after year.
