Choral concert by the Liverpool Welsh Choral with the Celtic Symphony Orchestra and soloists, centred on Vaughan Williams's 'Fantasia on Christmas Carols'.
Liverpool Welsh Choral are at The Tung Auditorium on Saturday 12 December, with the Celtic Symphony Orchestra and soloists. It's a Christmas concert, and the programme is built around two big choral works: Ralph Vaughan Williams's Fantasia on Christmas Carols and Gerald Finzi's In Terra Pax. Those two are woven together with seasonal favourites, treasured Welsh music and carols for the audience to join in with.
If you're not familiar with the main pieces, they're both staples of the choral repertoire. Vaughan Williams's Fantasia is a medley of traditional carols, rearranged into a single, flowing work, and Finzi's In Terra Pax is a setting of the Christmas Day liturgy. The choral parts are handled by the Liverpool Welsh Choral, with the Celtic Symphony Orchestra providing the orchestral backing and soloists taking the individual lines. The whole thing is promoted by the choral society themselves.
