The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Alfonso Casado Trigo, reimagines Queen's greatest hits with West End vocalists on New Year's Eve.
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra are taking over the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Thursday 31 December for Killer Queen on New Year's Eve, a night dedicated to the music of Queen. It's a full orchestral reimagining of the band's catalogue, with the RLPO at the centre and a line-up of West End vocalists on the front. The orchestra is conducted by Alfonso Casado Trigo, and the singing comes from Rachael Wooding, Jesse Smith, Emma Hatton and Ross Hunter.
The set runs through the band's greatest hits, with 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'A Kind of Magic', 'Radio Ga Ga', 'We Are The Champions' and 'Killer Queen' all on the bill. Each one is reworked for the full orchestra, so you'll hear them as you've never heard them before. The show is described as big, bold and full of energy, and since it's New Year's Eve, it's as much about the occasion as the music.
It's a bit of a different way to spend the night if you're not in the mood for a party. Instead of a club or a pub, you've got the RLPO and four West End voices taking on some of the biggest songs from Queen's career, all inside the Philharmonic Hall. If you've spent years listening to these records on your own, hearing them played by a full orchestra is a fair way to see them from a new angle.
