A sharp, funny and devastating one-act play by Victoria Fradgley, presented by Tús Nua as part of the Liverpool Irish Festival 2026.
High Tea, a one-act play by Victoria Fradgley, runs at the Liverpool Irish Centre on Saturday 17 October, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. It's presented by Tús Nua in association with DTFilms, and it's a three-hander with an all-female cast. After the play, there's a Q&A, so you'll have a chance to pick the cast and crew's brains before you head home.
The play is a sharp, funny and devastating reckoning between two estranged sisters, drawn back together by a piece of land that has shaped their family's history. Set against the weight of Irish family history, it asks how love curdles into resentment, how memory can betray us, and whether reconciliation is possible when the past refuses to stay buried. The staging is a bit unusual: one actor's voice serves as a memory, while two characters remain on stage throughout.
It's being staged as part of the Liverpool Irish Festival 2026, which runs under the theme 'I Am Here'. That theme draws on the city's long Irish history, from the arrival of around 1.8 million people through Clarence Dock during the Great Hunger years to the living Irish community, identity, migration, music and literature that still shape the city. High Tea fits right into that, with its focus on family, memory and the things that tie people to a place.
