Hayseed Dixie, the East Tennessee 'Rockgrass' band, plays the O2 Academy 2 Liverpool with support from Sweet Electric.
Hayseed Dixie play O2 Academy 2 Liverpool on Tuesday 27 October, with Sweet Electric on support. It's a mid-week one, so if you're heading in from outside the city centre, you'll want to plan your night around it.
If you've never come across them, Hayseed Dixie are a bit of a curiosity. They formed in East Tennessee and started out as an AC/DC tribute act called AC/Dixie before they took the name they're known by now. Since then they've built their own sound, which they call 'Rockgrass' — hard rock played on bluegrass instruments. Over 20 studio albums and EPs, they mix Rockgrass reworkings of rock, R&B and metal with their own original songs, and their live show leans into the comic side of things as much as the musicianship. It's a particular kind of crossover: the energy of a rock gig with the instrumentation of a bluegrass band.
Sweet Electric open the night. They're a classic rock band that takes 70s and 80s vibes and gives them a modern twist, known for raucous riffs, powerful vocals and their hit 'Heir To The Throne'. Between the two, you've got a night that sits firmly in the rock camp, though from two very different angles.
