UK and Ireland tour run of the Tony Award-winning folk opera Hadestown at the Liverpool Empire Theatre.
Hadestown is coming to the Liverpool Empire Theatre from 6 to 10 July 2027, as part of its 2027 UK and Ireland tour. It's a folk opera conceived by indie-folk singer-songwriter AnaΓ―s Mitchell and staged by Rachel Chavkin, who also helmed Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.
The show takes the story of Orpheus and Eurydice and sets it in an industrial underworld that feels more like the New Orleans scene than ancient Greece. It weaves their tragedy together with the relationship between King Hades and his wife Persephone, so you get two very different kinds of love playing out at once. The music is a folk-driven score that Mitchell originally developed as a concept album of the same name, and the production grew from there into a full stage show.

It's picked up a fair bit of recognition along the way. At the 2019 Tony Awards, it took home Best Musical and Best Original Score, and it went on to win Best Musical Theatre Album at the 2020 Grammys. Since then, it's been seen by over six million people and streamed by nearly a billion, so by the time it reaches Liverpool, it'll be a well-travelled production. This run is part of the show's 2027 tour across the UK and Ireland, and it'll be playing at the Empire from 6 to 10 July.
