Stand-up show by Icelandic comedian Greipur Hjaltason, the first time he takes his brand of humour on tour across the UK.
Greipur Hjaltason brings The Icebreaker UK Tour to Hot Water Comedy Club at Blackstock Market on Friday 23 October. It's the first time the Icelandic comedian is taking his stand-up across the UK, and Liverpool is one of the stops. He's the sole name on the bill, so it's a full night of his material rather than a mixed line-up.
If you haven't come across him yet, Hjaltason is best known as @greipjokes online, where he's built a massive following—over 2 million on Instagram and 800,000 on TikTok, with more than a billion views across his clips. He first made a name for himself with viral videos built on razor-sharp wit, deadpan delivery and brutally honest observations about parenting, relationships and life on a tiny island of volcanoes, glaciers and questionable weather. He was named Iceland's Comedian of the Year in 2020 and has since become one of the most recognised voices in European stand-up, and he's also appeared as a guest on the award-winning Comedy Roundtable podcast.
His material jumps from everyday quirks to cultural oddities, and it's all delivered with a twist of Icelandic charm. The things he finds funny—the small, strange frictions of family life and the particularities of growing up in a place as remote as Iceland—are the same things that translate so well to an audience that's never been there. This tour is the first time he's brought that brand of humour to UK stages.
