Paranormal investigation session by DeadLive in the rooms of The Coffee House, Liverpool's oldest surviving pub, after it closes.
DeadLive are running a ghost hunt at The Coffee House in Wavertree on Saturday 24 October, from 8.30pm to 2.00am. It's a late one, starting after the pub has closed for the night, and it's the first of a series of hunts they've got lined up across the autumn and winter.
The venue itself is a Grade II-listed building on Church Road North, and it's got a fair bit of history to it. It's described as Liverpool's oldest surviving pub and one of the city's most distinctive heritage landmarks, with more than 250 years of documented history. The rooms are said to be haunted by figures like the spectral licensee Elizabeth Heys, who ran the inn back in 1777, alongside the ghosts of long-forgotten summer Assemblies and the clatter of the horse trams that used to terminate right outside. The pub's past is tied to Ale House Recognizances and Robert Cain's brewery empire, so there's plenty of old Liverpool to draw on.
As for the night, DeadLive takes small groups up two flights of stairs to the upper floor, where the team works with quiet observation, traditional experiments and modern paranormal equipment. They're clear about how they run things: nothing is staged and no activity is guaranteed, so it's more about the process than a promised result. Alcohol isn't permitted on the hunt, and the session runs well into the early hours.
