Hands-on one-day workshop for sewers with basic skills to make a custom-fit garment from start to finish.
Garment Making 1 Day Masterclass runs at Unit 218, Queens Dock Business Centre on Saturday 21 November, from 10:00. It's a one-day workshop that takes you from a flat piece of fabric to a finished, custom-fit garment by the time you head home.
The day is built around the practical side of making. You'll start by choosing and cutting patterns, then move on to sewing seams, hems and the finishing touches. From there, you'll learn how to insert a zipper or add buttons and fasteners, and how to fit and adjust the piece for a tailored look. You bring two to three metres of non-stretch fabric — cotton or poly-cotton works best — and pick your pattern from a selection on the day. Everyone leaves with a completed garment.
It's worth noting who this is for. It's aimed at sewers with basic skills: people who've already done an 'Intro to sewing' class or who feel confident setting up and running a sewing machine. The machine itself isn't taught, so you'll need to be comfortable with the basics before you arrive. Tea, coffee and cake are included throughout the day.
