The 10th anniversary tour of the British musical about Jamie New, a 16-year-old who turns up to prom in a dress, with a brand-new song.
Everybody's Talking About Jamie comes to the Liverpool Empire from 30 March to 3 April 2027, as part of the Sheffield Theatres production's 10th anniversary tour. It's a homegrown British musical with music by Dan Gillespie Sells, lead singer-songwriter of The Feeling, and book and lyrics by Tom MacRae. The show premiered at the Sheffield Crucible in 2017 and became an instant success with audiences and critics. Set in Sheffield, it follows Jamie New, a gay 16-year-old living on a council estate who stuns his school by turning up to prom in heels and a frock. It's described as an infectious, funny and touching exploration of sexuality, ambition and coming of age, sitting somewhere between the struggles of Billy Elliot and the fabulousness of Kinky Boots.
Since that debut, it's picked up a 2019 What's On Stage Award for Best Original Cast Recording and four Olivier Award nominations in 2018. It also ran for a record-breaking three years in the West End, played two sold-out UK and Ireland tours, and inspired an award-winning film from Amazon Studios. This 10th anniversary tour brings it back to the stage with a brand-new song written by the original creators, Gillespie Sells and MacRae.
The cast for this run is led by Ashcon Rahmani as Jamie, with Rebecca Trehearn as Margaret, Kelle Bryan and Joanne Clifton sharing the role of Miss Hedge, and Divina De Campo as Hugo/Loco Chanelle. Natasha Lewis plays Ray, Mariam Pope as Pritt, Matthew Cavan as Tray Sophisticay, Daniel Jacob as Sandra Bollock, Jenson Steele as Laika Virgin, William Hazell as Dad, Kyle Dick as Dean, Ethan Casey-Clothier as Levi, Ellie Eames as Vicki, Uzuazo O'David as Cy, Grace Porter as Bex, Callum Saddler as Young Loco, Fin Scott as Mickey, Zaynab Shahid as Fatimah, Will Stevenson-Jones as Sayid and Zarina Thompson as Becca. The production is directed by Jonathan Butterell.
