Glamorous musical based on the hit movie Burlesque, with songs by Christina Aguilera, Sia and Diane Warren, at the Liverpool Empire.
Burlesque The Musical comes to the Liverpool Empire on Tuesday 24 November, with a second date on Saturday 5 December. It's the stage version of the movie, produced by Christina Aguilera, and it arrives in Liverpool after a run in the West End that became summer 2025's biggest hit, selling out night after night.
The story follows Ali, who heads to the bright lights of New York in search of her long-lost mother and gets drawn into a dazzling underground world. It's billed as a glamorous, gritty and outrageously fun show, and the music is a big part of that. The songs are by Christina Aguilera, Sia and Diane Warren, with additional songs by Jess Folley and Todrick Hall. The book is by Steven Antin, with additional material by Kate Wetherhead, and Nick Winston directed and choreographed the production.
If you're familiar with the film, you'll recognise the setup: the New York nightlife, the burlesque club, and the journey from the wings to the centre of the stage. The stage production takes that and builds it out for the theatre, with the music and choreography doing a lot of the heavy lifting. It's a glamorous, high-energy show that doesn't shy away from the grit of the city it's set in, and it's the same one that played to packed houses in London before heading north.
