Free book launch of Craig Hammond's work on music and higher education, with presentations, a recital and a Q&A hosted by Irina.
Craig Hammond is launching his new book, Music, Hope & Transformation through Higher Education, at the LJMU Student Life Building on Wednesday 28 October. It's a midday session, running from 12:00 to 15:00, and it's free to attend.
The book comes out this year from Bloomsbury Academic, and Hammond describes it as part autoethnographic memoir, part philosophical inquiry and part education manifesto. It looks at how music, place and learning can open up transformative possibilities in people's lives, and it explores alternative ways of learning and assessment in higher education. His central point is that the university can be a space where hope is lived rather than just talked about — a place where a better future can be glimpsed, felt and worked towards.
The launch itself isn't just a talk. Hammond will give a presentation, followed by a recital performed by himself, Emma and Jonathan. After that, there's a Q&A hosted by Irina, so you'll have a chance to ask questions and hear more about the ideas in the book. The whole thing is hosted by LJMU's Ethnography Club in conjunction with the Liverpool Institute for Research in Education.
