Concert by Ross Wilson, known as Blue Rose Code, a Caledonian soul singer-songwriter, at the Music Room of the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
Blue Rose Code plays the Music Room at the Liverpool Philharmonic on Tuesday 20 October, starting at 20:00. That's the stage name of Ross Wilson, an Edinburgh-raised, London-based singer-songwriter who builds his sound from Scots folk and Caledonian soul. The Liverpool date is part of the band's 2025-2026 tour, and the set will be built around Blue Rose Code, his 2026 studio album.
Wilson has spent the last couple of years working those songs out on the road in a few different formats. He's toured solo, as a duo, as a quartet, and with his nine-piece Big Caley Soul Band, so the material has been road-tested across a fair few line-ups before it landed on the record. He's also played headline slots at the Cambridge Folk Festival and Gate To Southwell in 2024, and a sold-out show at Celtic Connections in Glasgow.
He's worked with Karine Polwart, Beth Nielsen Chapman and Ewan McGregor, written for Steve Knightley and opened for Van Morrison, Deacon Blue and the Proclaimers. Critics have called him a 'Caledonian soul maestro' and described his sets as combining widescreen soul, muted jazz and poetic recitation with the spontaneity of an after-hours pub session.
