Seventh edition of Astles' Christmas show, with friends, creatives and the full Balloon Moon Orchestra, marking the start of the festive season.
Astles is back with his Christmas show on Wednesday 2 December, at the Music Room in the Liverpool Philharmonic. It's the seventh edition of the night, which he's built into a bit of a city tradition: every December he gathers friends, musicians and creatives around him and re-assembles the full Balloon Moon Orchestra, string quartet and harp included, for an evening that marks the start of the festive season.
On the night, he'll play new and old tunes, and the bill has historically left room for special guests. The Balloon Moon Orchestra provides the main weight behind him, with the string quartet and harp adding the more orchestral textures that have become part of the show's sound. It's a singer-songwriter at the centre, but with a full ensemble filling out the room around him.
Astles is a Liverpool singer-songwriter, and the show has a track record of filling whatever space it lands in. In previous years it took in the acoustics of St Bride's and the Ullet Road Unitarian Church, and the Music Room itself sold out the time before. This year it's back in that same room, with the full orchestra and the usual mix of friends and guests joining in.
