Immersive theatrical speakeasy experience for two in which guests play prisoners smuggling spirits to receive four bespoke cocktails from the Wardens.
Alcotraz Prison Cocktail Bar is running its theatrical cocktail experience in Liverpool through to Friday 30 December, with the venue sitting in Cell Block Three-Six of the Alcotraz Penitentiary. It's a bit of a setup: you arrive and pull on an orange jumpsuit, taking the role of a prisoner whose job is to smuggle your own bottle of spirits past the Warden and into your cell. Once you're inside, the guards turn mixologists and shake up four bespoke cocktails using your smuggled spirits and a secret supply of house liqueurs, homemade bitters, syrups and mixers.
The whole thing plays as a piece of immersive theatre set after a recent prison outbreak, with the Wardens having re-developed the prison for maximum security. That's where the theatrical side comes in: twisting storylines, convincingly grim sets and actors keep it going throughout. It's less a night at the bar and more a role you play for a couple of hours, so it works best if you're up for leaning into the theme.

Practical bits to keep in mind: the experience lasts about an hour and 45 minutes and is for over-18s only. They also advise eating beforehand, as no food is served on site, so don't turn up on an empty stomach. It's £118 per pair, and it runs from Saturday 24 October right through to the end of the year.
