Guided tour in small groups of unseen areas of Liverpool Cathedral, from top to bottom, including a visit to the top of the tower.
Liverpool Cathedral is running its Above and Beyond Tour through the winter, with tours starting at 12:00pm. It's a guided trip into the unseen areas of the building, the parts that are usually off limits to the general public. You'll go in a small group, led by an expert guide who takes you through the Cathedral from top to bottom, including a trip up to the top of the tower.
Most of us know the Cathedral from the inside, but this is about the bits you don't normally see. The tour is described as a national architectural treasure that thousands explore each week, and this is your chance to get behind the scenes. You'll be in a small group rather than a large crowd, which makes it feel a bit more personal, and the expert guides are there to talk you through what you're seeing as you go. The climb to the top of the tower is the real highlight, taking you well above the nave and the usual visiting areas.
It's a long-running one, too. The tour runs from 30 September right through until 10 March 2027, so if you're not free on a particular day, you've got plenty of dates to choose from. Each one starts at 12:00pm, which makes it a decent midday thing to do on a weekend or a day off. The Cathedral is in Edge Hill, so it's easy enough to get to from the city centre.

Tickets are £25 per person plus a booking fee, and they're non-returnable and non-refundable, so it's worth double-checking your date before you commit. You'll need to be at least 14 years old to take part, and you're asked to arrive at The Welcome Desk at least 10 minutes before the start time. If you've spent time in the Cathedral before but never seen the bits that stay closed, this is the way in.
