Free festive concert by the University of Liverpool student brass band and choirs, part of the Yoko Ono Lennon Lunchtime Concert Series.
A Merry Musical Christmas comes to The Tung Auditorium on Wednesday 16 December, a lunchtime concert that’s part of the Yoko Ono Lennon Lunchtime Concert Series. It’s a collaboration between the University of Liverpool’s student brass band and choirs, the same pairing that played last year, so it’s a return of the student musicians rather than a one-off. The whole thing is supported by Yoko Ono Lennon via Spirit Foundations.
As for what you'll hear, it's a festive programme that brings together soaring voices, close harmonies and the warm, velvety sound of the brass. The two groups share the stage throughout, and the set closes with the ensemble's yearly rendition of White Christmas — one of those moments where joining in is optional but encouraged, so you can sing along if you fancy it. The concert runs for about 50 minutes, which is just enough to fit into a lunch break without taking up the whole afternoon.
There are a few practical things to keep in mind if you're planning to bring the family. Access seats are available for anyone with additional access requirements. It's not likely suitable for children under five, and under-16s need to be accompanied by an adult. If you're taking younger ones, just a heads-up that under-10s aren't permitted on the balconies.
