Christmas concert with the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Brass Band and Youth Training Choir, conducted by Simon Cowen and Olivia Hamblyn.
The Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Brass Band and Youth Training Choir are back at The Tung Auditorium on Wednesday 9 December, their Christmas concert returning by popular demand. It's part of the Philharmonic's Close Up Concerts series, and the programme is built around Christmas classics old and new, so you'll hear the familiar carols alongside some less-known festive pieces. The brass band and the choir share the bill, each led by their own conductor.
Simon Cowen, section leader trombone of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, takes the brass band, while vocal expert Olivia Hamblyn leads the choir. Between them, they bring together two of the Philharmonic's youth ensembles for one evening, with the brass and the voices working side by side rather than taking separate turns. It's a Christmas concert in the truest sense, with the young musicians marking the start of the festive season.
On the practical side, the Fröhlich Café Bar opens 90 minutes before the performance, so there's plenty of time to get a drink and settle in before things get underway. Access seats are available for anyone who needs them. A few things to keep in mind if you're bringing the family: the show isn't likely suitable for children under 5, under-16s must be accompanied by an adult, and under-10s aren't permitted on the balconies.
