Lunchtime concert in which organist Ian Tracey plays festive pieces such as 'The Holy Boy', Tchaikovsky's 'Nutcracker' and 'Sleigh Ride'.
Ian Tracey takes to the organ at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Tuesday 22 December for A Christmas Organ Treat, a lunchtime concert that runs for one hour. It's a festive programme built around seasonal favourites, and Tracey will be playing the hall's organ throughout.
Among the pieces he'll be drawing on are John Ireland's The Holy Boy, Tchaikovsky's Suite from The Nutcracker, and Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride — all familiar enough that you'll recognise them even if you've never heard them on an organ before. It's an hour of festive music, so it's a relatively short commitment if you're just popping in over your lunch break.
It sits within the Philharmonic Hall's wider 2026 season, which runs from July to December and covers a fair bit of ground. Along with the organ, the season includes Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, and Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, alongside film concerts and family shows like The Nutcracker, The Snowman, and Christmas at the Movies. The hall describes its programming as live performances for all tastes, from classical masterpieces to popular music, comedy, film concerts and family events.
