Open mic comedy night where anyone can sign up to try a three-minute set before the audience judges hit their buzzers.
3 Minutes Of Fame is back at Hot Water Comedy Club on Thursday 17 June, with doors opening at 17:30 and the show running from 19:00 until 21:00. It's one of the city's most open-mic nights, and the format is as straightforward as the name suggests: you sign up on the night and try to survive a full three minutes before the audience judges hit their buzzers. If you make it through, you get a free drinks voucher after your set. The night's winner is decided by a rapid-fire final, with the result settled by an audience clap-off.
What makes it a bit different from your usual comedy night is who ends up on stage. It's billed as Liverpool's wildest and most unpredictable comedy night because anyone can step up to the mic: brand-new comedians testing their first few jokes, daring first-timers, or even an audience member who decides on a whim to have a go. Because the line-up is built on the spot, you never quite know what's coming next.
Resident MCs Danny McLoughlin and Phil Chapman keep the night moving, and the whole thing is staged by Hot Water Comedy, widely regarded as the UK's best comedy promoter. They run it at one of their two award-winning, purpose-built comedy venues, so it's a proper room for stand-up rather than a pub backroom.
