Biographical drama about amateur historian Catherine Corless uncovering a hidden history of loss in rural Ireland.
The Lost Children of Tuam is screening at Hyde Park Picture House on Tuesday 22 October. It's a biographical drama directed by Frank Berry, based on a true story that starts with Catherine Corless, an amateur historian who begins researching a former institution for unmarried mothers and their children in rural Ireland. What she finds is a shocking hidden history of loss, and the film follows her as she brings it to light.
BAFTA winner Monica Dolan carries the screen in the role of Corless. If that name rings a bell, it's because she starred opposite the real-life Catherine Corless in Mr Bates vs The Post Office, so she's stepped from the supporting role into the lead here. The critics have been on her side, too: the Irish Independent called the film "a powerful tribute to a relentless search for the truth."
