Intimate book talk and conversation with Clint Boon about his book 'The Manchester Chronicles', with an audience Q&A.
Clint Boon is at The Electric Press on Thursday 26 November, part of The Long Play Sessions. The whole evening is built around his book, The Manchester Chronicles: True Tales of Music, Madness and Mayhem 1976-2006, which Guy Garvey described as "the greatest rock and roll book ever written".
Boon is a musician, broadcaster and DJ who first made his name creating the unmistakable organ sound of Inspiral Carpets, and he's since become a passionate champion of Manchester music. The book traces three decades of the city's scene, from punk and the indie and psychedelic underground of the 1980s through Madchester, rave and Britpop. The night is billed as an intimate book talk and conversation, with an audience Q&A that lets you ask your own questions.
He'll be talking about rehearsal rooms, tiny venues and Top of the Pops, alongside encounters with Buzzcocks, Joy Division, The Fall, New Order, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Elbow and Oasis. If you've followed any of those bands, it's a fair amount of ground to cover in one sitting. The session combines talk and music, so it's as much about the stories as the songs.
