Premier League football match between Leeds United and Manchester City at Elland Road.
Leeds United take on Manchester City at Elland Road on Wednesday 6 January, a Premier League clash that'll bring the city's footballing focus right back to the heart of West Leeds. It's a mid-week game, with kick-off at 19:00, so it's one you can get to after work rather than spending your whole Saturday on it.
For those who haven't spent much time there, Elland Road has been Leeds United's home since 1919, though the ground itself dates back to 1897. It's more than just a stadium; it's the club's spiritual home, and it's tied up with the legendary Don Revie side of the late 1960s and early 70s. It's also got a fair bit of history beyond the football: it hosted the first televised match in 1965, played a supporting role in Euro 96, and has seen concerts by U2 and Queen. The ground holds around 38,000, with the three-tiered East Stand as its architectural centrepiece and the South Stand — known as 'the Cheese Wedge' or 'the Kop' — sitting close to the action. There are expansion plans on the go to push that capacity up to about 53,000.
