Theatrical cut of the classic horror film The Exorcist, part of the Spooky Season, with a book giveaway from 3AM Books.
The Exorcist is screening at Hyde Park Picture House on Saturday 17 October, as part of the cinema's Spooky Season. It's the theatrical cut, directed by William Friedkin, and it's rated 18.
If you haven't seen it, the story follows young Regan MacNeil, whose disturbing behaviour leads her mother to seek help from the church, where Father Merrin and Father Karras confront a powerful demonic force. It's described as one of the most influential and controversial horror films of all time, known for its groundbreaking effects and unforgettable performances. The screening also marks the publication of a special anniversary edition of William Peter Blatty's novel, and it's held in partnership with 3AM Books, who are giving a copy of the book to anyone buying a ticket.
There's something about seeing a film like this in a place like the Picture House that just works. The cinema opened on 7 November 1914 and is one of the country's most distinctive and historic; it's survived the advent of talkies, radio, TV, video, multiplexes and the internet to remain a friendly, independent home for independent, documentary and classic films, run by staff and volunteers. It's been recently refurbished, with conservation work to its façade and auditorium and a second screen now open.

Tickets are £6.00, and since the screening comes with a copy of the book, it's a fair deal for a Saturday night in Headingley. The cinema is at 73 Brudenell Road, LS6 1JD.
