A new film adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, directed by Georgia Oakley, presented as part of the venue's Bring Your Own Baby family offering.
Hyde Park Picture House is showing a new adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility on Wednesday 21 October, part of their 'Bring Your Own Baby' strand. It's presented by Universal and directed by Georgia Oakley, who you might know from Blue Jean.
It's the familiar story: when Mr Dashwood dies, his widow and three daughters are forced out of their Sussex home and into a modest cottage. From there, the steady, sensible Elinor and the impulsive, heart-led Marianne both fall for very different men — the quietly honourable Edward Ferrars and the dashing, unreliable John Willoughby. Oakley describes her take on the novel as a charming, witty and deeply relatable story of love and sisterhood.
The film was shot across genuine historic houses in Dorset, Knebworth and Devon, and it leans into the stiff-collared formality of the period while keeping Austen's wit intact. Because it's part of the 'Bring Your Own Baby' offering, it's one of those screenings where you can bring the little ones along rather than finding a sitter.
