Ria Rua live at Northern Guitars

Ria Rua plays Northern Guitars on Saturday 17 October, with support from Beth Pilling and The Bootleggers and Hollie Mackenzie. It's an afternoon session, running from 14:00 to 18:00, and entry is free.

Ria Rua comes from Ireland, and her name means 'Red Queen' in Irish. She's known for explosive, emotional performances, and her lyrics are pointed and personal, though they deal in universal themes of sex, power and freedom. The sound is a dynamic fusion: electronic pulses, grunge undertones and alternative embellishments, with vocals layered across industrial textures and introspective melodies. Much of her work is guitar-driven, and some tracks feature two drummers, all pushed by a single-minded vision and urgency.

It's a full afternoon of music, with Beth Pilling and The Bootleggers and Hollie Mackenzie opening the bill before Ria Rua takes over. The session runs from 14:00 to 18:00 at Northern Guitars Cafe Bar, 41 Call Ln, Leeds LS1 7BT, and entry is free.
