Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan's debut play about two Muslim university students in London who find common ground over a peanut butter and blueberry sandwich.
Peanut Butter & Blueberries opens at Leeds Playhouse on Thursday 22 October, with the opening night starting at 7.15pm. It's the debut play from Leeds playwright and poet Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan, and it arrives here after a sell-out world premiere at London's Kiln Theatre, where it was commissioned and first performed in July and August 2024.
The story follows Hafsah and Bilal, two Muslim university students in London far from home. Neither is looking for love, but they find common ground over a peanut butter and blueberry sandwich. Critics have called it a 'funny and refreshing take on a romantic comedy', 'sharp-witted' and an 'immediate, emotionally-charged debut'.
Humera Syed plays Hafsah and Kashif Ghole plays Bilal. The production is directed by Sameena Hussain, with set and costume by Khadija Raza, lighting by Rajiv Pattani, sound by Helen Skiera, movement by Natasha Harrison and dialect coaching by Gurkiran Kaur. The run continues after opening night on Friday 23, Saturday 24, Monday 26, Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 October, with every performance starting at 7.15pm.
