Screenings of the documentary 'NAZA', shot on the rooftops of Tel Aviv and told from the perspective of soldiers, at Hyde Park Picture House.
NAZA is screening at Hyde Park Picture House in Headingley, with runs starting on Friday 16 October and continuing through to Thursday 22 October. It's a documentary by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, two of the four co-directors of the 2024 Oscar winner No Other Land.
Shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, the film looks at the systems behind the mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, told from the perspective of some of the soldiers involved. It's subtitled throughout. Abraham and Szor—one an investigative journalist, the other a cinematographer—made it out of a sense of obligation to use their position as Israelis to explore that violence. They describe it as asking the same questions their grandparents' generation did throughout the 20th century: how does one group of people allow the total dehumanisation of another, and what do the inner workings of such a system look like?
Much of the film's material was published by The Guardian in the months following the October 7 attacks, in collaboration with +972 Magazine and Local Call. It's been reviewed as one of 2026's most vital film releases.
