Musical theatre star Kerry Ellis sings a jukebox of rock anthems by Queen, Meatloaf and Bonnie Tyler at City Varieties.
Kerry Ellis brings her Rock Anthems tour to City Varieties Music Hall on Monday 29 October, with the show starting at 7:30pm. It's a night of rock classics, and the setlist draws from a jukebox of anthems by Queen, Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler and others.
Ellis is one of the biggest names in musical theatre, and Sir Brian May once described her as having 'the most beautiful voice in Britain'. The two first crossed paths in 2002 when he asked her to sing Queen's greatest hits in the musical We Will Rock You. From there, they went on to release three albums together and tour the world. This show is a tribute to the rock legends who inspired her, and the setlist leans into that jukebox feel, pulling from the big names that shaped her sound.
There's a bit of a local angle to this one, too. At every date on the tour, aspiring young singers aged 11 to 19 who live within 45 minutes of the venue are invited to perform a song with her on stage. If you know a young singer in the area, it's worth keeping in mind.
