Guided silent walk led by poet Clare Wigzell that pairs poetry with nature and the abbey grounds to help people relax and reconnect.
Enrich Your Inner Self: Poetry, Nature and Walking comes to Kirkstall Abbey on Wednesday 21 October, from 12:00 to 13:00. It's a session led by local poet Clare Wigzell, and it pairs a silent walk with a bit of poetry through nature and the abbey grounds. Wigzell describes it as a way to help people relax, recharge and connect to their inner self.
Kirkstall Abbey is one of the most complete examples of a medieval Cistercian abbey in Britain, set in parkland along the banks of the River Aire. Its visitor centre tells the story of the 12th-century monks and houses the 'touch table', a unique catalogue of images of the abbey from the 18th century to the present day. The abbey is now a Give What You Can museum, inviting visitors to donate. The grounds, within a public park, offer walking trails, a tennis court and wildlife, and sit directly across the road from Abbey House Museum. The walk follows an accessible route around the abbey, though it may involve walking on uneven surfaces. The session forms part of the 2026 Leeds Mindfulness Festival.
