Children's author Iqbal Hussain talks about his novel 'The Night I Borrowed Time' and the importance of representation in children's literature, aimed at young readers, families and educators.
Iqbal Hussain is at Morley Live on Friday 6 November, starting at 17:00. He's an acclaimed children's author, and the session is built around his novel The Night I Borrowed Time, which follows 11-year-old Zubair as he tries to mend his family through time travel. It's aimed at young readers, families and educators, so it's one of those afternoons you take the kids along to.
Beyond the story, Hussain talks about representation and visibility in children's literature. He draws on his own experience of growing up in a British Pakistani family and navigating cultural identity, and that feeling of wanting to be in control when life is changing around you. It's the kind of thing that gives the book some extra weight, and it's what he'll be unpacking during the session.
The talk is part of the Morley Literature Festival, which runs from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 November across several Morley venues, including Morley Live, Prospect and Unity Hall. Over those four days there's a full programme of talks, panels and workshops for all ages, so if you're in the area, there's plenty more to pick from around the festival. This particular session is on the Friday, and it's one of the ones geared towards younger readers.

Tickets are £3.00. One thing to keep in mind: parents and carers have to stay on the premises and need their own ticket, so make sure you book for yourself as well as the kids. The session is at Morley Live, 1 Beryl Burton Gardens, Morley, Leeds LS27 9FN, starting at 17:00 on Friday 6 November.
