Tim Burton's stop-motion animated fantasy film Corpse Bride, part of the Hyde & Seek and Spooky Season event.
Corpse Bride is screening at Hyde Park Picture House on Saturday 31 October, part of the cinema's Hyde & Seek and Spooky Season programmes. It's Tim Burton's 2005 stop-motion animated film, a return to the painstaking animation he used in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The story is a hair-raising legend based on a 19th-century Russian folktale: a young man mistakenly weds a corpse while on a two-day trek to the village of his real bride-to-be, and it's up to his flesh-and-blood fiancée to face her wraith-like rival and make peace with her. It's distributed by Park Circus and voiced by Helena Bonham Carter, Johnny Depp and Emily Watson, and runs an hour and seventeen minutes.
Inside the cinema, the Young Audiences Officer at Hyde Park Picture House described it as 'a quintessential Burton creation, steeped in gothic charm, meticulous craftsmanship and a deliciously dark sense of humour'. That's a good summary of what to expect: the stop-motion style, the gothic tone, and the dark humour that runs through it. It's a short one, too, so it's an easy one to fit into a Halloween morning.
