Candlelit concert with live strings and piano reimagining the pop hits of Ed Sheeran and Coldplay at Leeds City Museum.
Candlelight brings the music of Ed Sheeran and Coldplay to Leeds City Museum on Friday 4 December, with the concert starting at 18:00 and running for about an hour. It's part of a series that pairs live strings or piano with thousands of softly glowing candles, which they use to give familiar songs a calm, close-up feel inside one of the city's historic interiors.
This particular edition is billed as a genre-blending reimagining of pop, with a setlist built around hits like 'Bad Habits' and 'A Sky Full of Stars'. The Candlelight programmes usually mix classical repertoire with arrangements of modern music, drawing on baroque and classical masterpieces, film and television soundtracks, tributes to rock and indie bands, and romantic piano favourites. This one leans into the pop side of that, stripping back two of the biggest names in the charts and running them through strings and piano.
Leeds City Museum on Millennium Square was once a Victorian Mechanics' Institute, and for these shows it opens up a central oval arena for the audience. The candles are LED for safety, and there's a 'Candlelight Photo' service that lets you take photos or record at specific moments, usually before or after the show, so you don't have to worry about your phone during the music. The venue is recommended for ages 8 and older, and minors generally need adult supervision.
