Author James Oddy talks about his book 'Blue and Amber Voices' and the history of Leeds Rhinos rugby league in a session at Prospect in Morley.
James Oddy, author of Blue and Amber Voices, is in conversation at Prospect in Morley on Friday 6 November, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. He'll be sitting down with friends in Blue and Amber to trace the history and the future of the Leeds Rhinos, the club he calls the only one. The session is pitched as an accessible journey through the club's legends and the wider story of Leeds rugby league, aimed at all sports fans rather than just the converted.
The evening is part of the Morley Literature Festival, which is being brought back by Kathleen Smith and Beth Grady. The two founded the Resident Bookclub five years ago and have grown it into the town's largest, with more than 600 members. Smith remembers the original festival, launched in 2026, as hugely popular and something she missed. This revived edition keeps the book club as bookends: it opens on the Thursday and closes with the club's fifth-anniversary party and a Booklovers' Quiz at Prospect Bar.

Oddy's book, Blue and Amber Voices, takes its title from the club's colours, and the conversation will follow that same thread, looking back at the figures who have shaped the Rhinos while keeping an eye on where they're headed. It's a night for anyone with an interest in the club, but the organisers have made it clear it's for sports fans in general, not just those who already know their way around a rugby league pitch. Tickets are £8.00 via Eventbrite, and the session runs for an hour and a half, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, at Prospect, 1 Queen Street, Morley, LS27 9DQ.
