Screening of the 2000 film 'Battle Royale' by Shock Horror Film Club, with intros, freebies and prize giveaways.
Battle Royale is coming to Wharf Chambers on Thursday 12 November, as part of the Shock Horror Film Club. It's the 2000 Japanese cult hit, and if you've never seen it, it's a proper piece of cinema that's hard to forget once it's stuck in your head.
The story starts with a school trip that takes a very dark turn. A class of teenagers is sent to a remote island and told they have to fight it out until only one remains. Forty-two arrive, but only one is allowed to leave. They've got three days to settle it, and the areas they can safely occupy shrink as the clock runs down, so the safe ground gets smaller and smaller while the tension keeps climbing. It's a high-stakes game of survival where paranoia sets in and the people you're fighting are your own classmates.
It's not just the film, either. The night is run by Shock Horror Film Club, and they build a bit of a scene around the screening with intros, freebies and prize giveaways, so it's more of an evening out than just sitting in the dark. If you're into the horror and thriller side of things, it's a good way to see a classic with a crowd that's there for the same reason.
