Author Sabaa Tahir talks about her fantasy novel 'Empire', answers audience questions and signs copies at Waterstones Leeds.
Sabaa Tahir is coming to Waterstones Leeds on Wednesday 4 November, for an evening celebrating Empire, the second and final book of her Heir duology. It's the sequel to Heir, so if you've read that one, this is where the story finishes.
Most of you will know Tahir from the An Ember in the Ashes series, which has been translated into more than thirty-five languages. Empire is the conclusion to the Heir duology, and that's what the night is built around. The whole thing runs for about two and a half hours: there's a 45-minute conversation with a chairperson, 15 minutes for audience questions, and then a signing. So if you've got something you've wanted to ask her, there's a proper slot for it.
There's a bit of a backstory to how she got here. Tahir grew up in California's Mojave Desert at her family's eighteen-room motel, and she spent her time there devouring fantasy novels, listening to indie rock, and playing guitar and piano. It's a nice image to hold onto while you're sitting in a bookshop in the middle of Leedsโthe desert motel and the fantasy novels that eventually led to the books she's known for now.
