Free monthly history and heritage talk for people aged 55 and over, held on the first Tuesday of every month at Kirkstall Abbey.
The 1152 Club is back at the Kirkstall Abbey Visitor Centre on Tuesday 3 November, with another session on Tuesday 1 December. It's a history and heritage talks series for people aged 55 and over, and it runs on the first Tuesday of every month, so if you miss this one, there's another just a few weeks on.
The subjects range from local history to world cultures, with speakers sharing their research and attendees offered a warm welcome and a warm drink. It's a relaxed setup, and the range of topics means you don't need to be a history buff to get something out of it. Recent talks have covered Weird and Wonderful Silver, A history of The Leeds Library, Common Wealth: War Graves Commission – Architecture & Renovations, and Yorkshire trams – A Forgotten Era, so you can get a sense of the ground it covers.
The series is part of Leeds400, the city's celebration of 400 years since it received its first Royal Charter from King Charles I on 13 July 1626. That was the moment that marked the beginning of Leeds' journey towards self-governance and city status, and the anniversary is being marked across the city throughout the year.
