Chicago blues guitarist and vocalist Toronzo Cannon plays live at Knuckleheads on Rochester Avenue.
Toronzo Cannon plays Knuckleheads on Saturday, October 17, at 8 PM. He's a Chicago bluesman—guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter—who grew up near Theresa's Lounge on the city's South Side, one of the spots where he first soaked up the Chicago blues scene. For a while, he drove a bus for the Chicago Transit Authority before turning to music full-time and forming his own band, The Cannonball Express, in 2001.
His Alligator Records debut, The Chicago Way (2016), was named MOJO's #1 Blues Album of 2016, and the 2019 follow-up, The Preacher, The Politician Or The Pimp, landed at #2 on the magazine's blues list. He's been nominated for a Blues Music Award ten times and has played the Chicago Blues Festival on ten separate occasions, with touring that's taken him from Japan to Europe. His 2023 album, Shut Up & Play!, was co-produced with Alligator president Bruce Iglauer.

When he talks about who he listens to, the names are the ones you'd expect from a Chicago player: Hound Dog Taylor, Muddy Waters, Albert King, and Jimi Hendrix. That mix of South Side grit and electric lead work is exactly what he brings to the stage. He'll be performing at Knuckleheads, 2715 Rochester Ave, Kansas City, MO, on Saturday, October 17, with the show starting at 8 PM.
