A youth tabletop role-playing game program for kids ages 10 and up to build a dungeon together, focusing on storytelling and teamwork.
Roll For Dungeon is happening at the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday, October 10, from 2 to 3 PM. It's a youth tabletop role-playing game program for kids ages 10 and up, and it flips the usual TTRPG format on its head.
Most tabletop games start with a pre-written adventure—a story someone else already mapped out for you to play through. This one does the opposite. Instead of playing through a module, the kids work together to design a dungeon of their own from the ground up. They spend the session filling it with tricks, traps, monsters, puzzles, secrets, and treasure, building the world as they go. It's more about the act of creation than the act of playing through a set script.
The whole thing leans on storytelling, teamwork, and game-design skills. Since the kids are the ones deciding where the traps go and what monsters guard the loot, they're essentially acting as the game designers rather than just the players. And if you're worried about the learning curve, you can put that to rest: no prior TTRPG experience is necessary to take part. It's as much for the kid who's never touched a twenty-sided die as it is for the one who already knows their way around a character sheet.

It's a one-hour session, so it's a quick way to get a group of kids working together on something creative. Space is limited, and an RSVP is required, so you'll want to get your name in early. You can find it at the Trails West Branch Meeting Room A in Kansas City, Saturday, October 10, from 2 to 3 PM.
