A communal gathering where participants bring journaling supplies to trade and swap materials like stickers, washi tape, and paper at a central table.
The Central Library is hosting a Junk Journal Swap on Sunday, December 13, from 2 PM to 4 PM. It's part of the Kansas City Public Library's DIY & Hobbies activities, and it's an in-person gathering open to seniors, adults, teens, and children. If you've got a stash of journaling supplies you're not using, this is the place to trade them for something new.
The whole thing works around a communal table. You bring along your own supplies and swap them right there—stickers, washi tape, scrap paper, and other ephemera. It's a low-pressure way to refresh your materials without spending a dime, and you'll walk away with a handful of things you didn't have when you arrived. If you're just starting out and don't have much to trade, it's still a good spot to see what other people are working with.
One detail that's worth knowing: anything left behind at the table stays with the library for future journaling events. So if you find yourself with a few leftover scraps at the end of the afternoon, you can leave them for the next person who comes through. It's a communal table in every sense—what goes in eventually finds its way into someone else's journal.
