A classical music concert by the Goldenberg Duo, featuring Susan Goldenberg on violin and her brother William on piano, sponsored by the Kansas City Symphony.
The Goldenberg Duo play the Central Library on Saturday, October 10, from 12 PM to 1 PM. The duo brings together Susan Goldenberg, a violinist with the Kansas City Symphony, and her brother William, a Distinguished Professor of Piano at Northern Illinois University. It's a family pairing, and the program they've put together is a broad one.
They're drawing from a wide range of composers: Ottorino Respighi, Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn, Charles Hale, Claude Debussy, Johannes Brahms, and Moritz Moszkowski. That's a lot of ground to cover in an hour, and the names run from the Romantic staples like Schubert and Brahms to the more atmospheric textures of Debussy and Respighi. It's the kind of program that doesn't stick to one corner of the repertoire, so you'll hear a good mix of styles in a single sitting.
There's a nice local connection here, too. Susan is a violinist with the Kansas City Symphony, and the symphony is the one sponsoring the concert. It's a midday performance, which makes it an easy one to fit into a Saturday morning without having to clear your whole evening.

As for the venue, the Central Library is the main resource library of the Kansas City Public Library system. It moved into its current building in 2004, which was a remodel of the former First National Bank. The restored 1906 bank lobby is still one of the library's most notable spaces, with the popular materials collection on the first floor standing among the restored columns. Up on the third floor, the Grand Reading Room takes early 20th-century library reading rooms as its model and opens up to a 34-foot ceiling with a skylight. The concert runs from 12 PM to 1 PM on Saturday, October 10, at the Central Library, 14 West 10th Street, Kansas City, MO 64105.
