Weekly stand-up open mic night at The Wit Theater, where local comics and first-timers test new material in front of a live audience.
The Wit Theater hosts its Wit Open Mic Night every Thursday at 8 PM, with the next one coming up on Thursday, October 22. It's an 17+ show, so you'll need to be at least 17 to get in. The theater is at 3808 Shelby St, Suite 1, in the heart of Indianapolis.
If you've never been, the open mic is the club's weekly training ground. It's where first-timers road-test new material alongside seasoned local comics, and anyone can sign up to take the stage. That's the whole point of the night: you'll hear a mix of people just starting out and regulars who've been doing this for years, all working through their latest sets in front of a live room. It's a good place to catch the city's newer talent before they move on to bigger bills.

The venue itself is run by ComedySportz, the improv troupe that opened in February 1993 at Theatre on the Square in Fountain Square. They spent 21 years on Mass Ave before moving to Shelby Street, and they're one branch of CSz Worldwide, which plays in more than 25 cities. The Wit Theater bills itself as Indianapolis's home for live stand-up, an intimate room that mixes nationally touring headliners with the city's best local comics. The open mic is just one part of what they doβthey also host Saturday Stand Up on the first and second Saturdays of each month, and there's a full food and bar menu served, so you can eat and drink while you watch. The next open mic is Thursday, October 22, at 8 PM.
