Monthly graphic novel book club for readers aged 9 to 12 to share their thoughts on the month's title, with snacks, games, giveaways and crafts.
The Tween Graphic Novel Book Club meets at the Lawrence Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Saturday, November 21, from 2 PM to 3 PM. It's a monthly gathering for readers aged 9 to 12, and this month's pick is Blood City Rollers Vol. 2: Move it or Bruise It by V.P. Anderson.
If you've never been, here's how it works: the group meets to talk about the month's graphic novel with other kids their age, and the conversation is just one part of the afternoon. They also have snacks, games, giveaways, and crafts, so it's as much a social hang as it is a book discussion. New members are always welcome, and you don't have to be part of a regular group to drop in.
One thing that's helpful to know ahead of time: you can pick up your copy of the month's title in advance at the branch's juvenile reference desk. That way, your kid can read it on their own schedule and come ready to talk about it, rather than trying to squeeze it in the week before. If they're just getting into graphic novels, this is a low-pressure way to start.

The Lawrence Branch itself has a bit of local history. It first opened in 1967 on North Franklin Road in a storefront that used to be the Lawrence Post Office, making it the first branch to open within an incorporated town in Marion County. A larger, permanent 13,500-square-foot facility opened in 1983, and a 2020 renovation added group study and tutoring areas, better lighting, more charging outlets, and updated interiors. The book club is free, and it runs from 2 PM to 3 PM on Saturday, November 21.
