Monthly book club for teens aged 13 to 18, open to the public, that picks its books from the YALSA Teens' Top Ten.
The Teen Library Council is hosting its book club meeting at the Nora Branch on Monday, November 9, from 6 PM to 7:30 PM. If you're not familiar with the council, it's a monthly gathering for students aged 13 to 18 who meet to discuss books and media, plan events, earn volunteer service hours, and give their input on library issues. The book club is the council's public arm: it runs on the second Monday of each month, and anyone can join, whether you're a Teen Library Council member or not.
The club draws its reading list from the YALSA Teens' Top Ten, a selection of books recommended by teens themselves, so the titles come from the community rather than a top-down list. It's a good way to find books that other young readers are actually talking about, and the open format means you can drop in for a single meeting without committing to the full council.
The meeting is at the Nora Branch, located at 8625 Guilford Avenue in suburban Washington Township. The branch opened in 1971 on a 2.56-acre lot donated by Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Eiteljorg in 1968, and it was expanded to 18,500 square feet in 1990. It's a well-established part of the neighborhood, and the book club is one of the regular programs it hosts for the area's teen community.
