Workshop for teenagers on the basics of gardening, from planting and soil care to growing plants on a windowsill, led by master gardener Amy Mullen.
Amy Mullen is leading a teen gardening workshop at Pike Branch on Monday, November 9, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. It's part of the Pike Gardening Group, a library-led series run by a librarian who's also a master gardener. The group works from the idea that gardens are places of sharing and that gardeners learn as much from one another as they do from books, whether they're just starting out or have years of experience behind them. Meetings follow the seasons, with seasonal discussions and practical resources like the library's Seed Library, and the aim is to connect local growers.
This particular session is aimed squarely at teenagers. Mullen walks them through the basics: planting, soil, and plant care, plus simple hacks for growing something of their own at home, whether they have a backyard, a balcony, or just a sunny windowsill. It's a good entry point for a teen who's curious about gardening but doesn't know where to start, especially since it covers how to make it work in small spaces.
