Teen woodworking program in which participants learn basic skills and tool safety to build a finished piece from raw materials.
Deeply Ingrained is bringing its woodworking program to the Glendale Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Wednesday, November 4, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. It's a hands-on session aimed at teens, and the whole point is to get you working with your hands rather than just watching someone else do it.
Over the course of the afternoon, you'll learn basic woodworking skills and how to handle tools safely. You start with raw materials and work your way through to a functional finished piece that you built yourself, so you walk out the door with something you can actually use. If you've never picked up a saw or a hammer before, this is exactly the kind of place to start.
The session is held at the Glendale Branch, which sits in the Broad Ripple community. The branch has a bit of a unique history: it opened in 2000 in Glendale Mall as the first full-service library in the country located inside a major shopping mall. In 2024, it moved into a new 24,800-square-foot space at the site of the former John Strange Elementary School, so it's now in a standalone building with plenty of room for programs like this.
